Hold On: A poem by Ally Henny

Hold On

Hold on

Hold on

Keep your eyes on the prize

Hold on

My ancestors told me to hold on but I keep losing my grip on reality. Disembodied. The prize keeps moving just out of reach.

I can use a water fountain, but is that all King saw when he climbed up that mountain?

Dwight Eisenhower said there were extremists on both sides, he lied. Black folks rights ain’t the same as white pride.

Distorted white faces contorted in anger and rioting. Is this 1957 or is it 2017?

Donald Trump said that there’s fine people on both sides, he lied. Black folks dignity ain’t the same as white pride.

Tell me

Where is the prize?

Hold on

Hold on

Keep your eyes on the prize

Hold on

What do you think?
